Window 7: How feedback shaped the final release

The retail version of Windows 7 was launched on 23rd October and it is already being hailed as the best Windows yet. Microsoft went totally wrong with Windows Vista but this time they talked with, and listened to software developers and consumers to come up with a great working OS. Microsoft started releasing beta versions of its latest OS from January '09 to get user feedback and ideas on how to make the OS better and easier to work with. As a result, the pre-orders of Windows 7 in Britain were more than those of the final Harry Potter book. And thats saying a lot! The following article describes the kind of market research Microsoft did and how they gathered and used user feedback.

  1. Another advantage of the beta testing was that there was a lot of strong and positive WOM. People knew that Microsoft was finally coming up with something good and anticipation always get people excited. Personally, I didn't hear even 1 negative comment about Windows 7 and the positive one's came from serious programmers and computer geeks (all of whom bashed Vista). I never bothered to install vista but I will definitely go for Windows 7

  3. i agree with both of you guys but as you know that launching a new brand for any mature company is way easy than for a new company, in this case microsoft has a great and unmatchable brand equity, obviously brand WOM plays a vital role but i think the success behind a new product lies in his brand worth as well as in its history.
